Carnaval del Peckham: la fiesta en las calles y los parques
Samba rhythms transported revellers from Peckham to Puerto Rico on Sunday 2nd August.
For the eighth year running, the Omnibus-based organisers of Carnaval Del Pueblo, put on the biggest Latin American event in Europe. Flamboyant costumes, exotic Latino food, waves of steel pans and rhythmic drum-patterns kick-started the carnival and kept the crowd of
thousands in a festive mood.
Britain’s Got Talent’s youngest contestant, 6-year-old Shakirita, wowed the crowds alongside the Columbian UK Salsa champion on the main stage.
The float procession travelled from Elephant & Castle, ending at Burgess Park. It filled the streets with dancing and dazzling tropical coloured décor.
With food and drink, music, dance and sunshine, Carnaval Del Pueblo is a sure not-to-miss for next year.
