Stop Rubbish Recycling
The Busworks’ commitment to waste reduction is being sullied.
Recycling bags and bins are being contaminated by rogue unrecyclable items including food, textiles, tissues, toner cartridges, polystyrene cups, glass, ceramics, and black bags. These items must be disposed of in the designated kitchen bins and not dumped in the recycling.
“Non-recyclable items, especially food waste, must not be put in office bins which are only emptied weekly and therefore may encourage pests,” says Manager Marion Morahan. “It is vital items in the recycling bins are recyclable items only and that they are empty and clean. We’ve been so successful in reducing our landfill waste by well over 60 per cent in the last year. Carelessly casting non-recyclable items into the wrong place is just rubbish can mean whole sacks of recyclable waste have to go to landfill.”
While it is important to remember to dispose of unrecyclable items in the right way, it is just as important to continue recycling items such as mixed paper, cans, plastic film, wax/ foil-lined cartons, staples/pins, plastic bags and laminates. With your continued support the success of this scheme will continue. Please remind yourself of the items that can be recycled and encourage others to do so by prominently displaying the “dos and don’ts” recycling leaflet in your office.
