Oscar Winner Answers Your Questions at The Pleasance
Double Academy Award winner Emma Thompson will be leading a post-performance discussion of her production of Fair Trade, a hard-hitting play about sex trafficking, at the Pleasance on 4th February.
The play reveals the highly emotive realities of the sex slave trade through two authentic, verbatim accounts of survivors.
This theatrical portrayal of the two women's journeys, one from Africa and the other from Eastern Europe, powerfully captures the horror of their plight whilst resisting the trappings of sentimentality.
Thompson, who is Chair of the UK human rights organisation the Bamber Foundation, has a clear passion for the issues in the play.
She stressed, "Sex trafficking is a hugely important subject, and I believe we need as much art as we can get to help people understand what's going on out there."
The play aims to bring the topic of the illegal sex trade to the forefront of social consciousness through the medium of theatre.
Fair Trade is showing at the Pleasance from Wednesday 4th February - Saturday 7th February at 7.30pm.
