Gillian Does Not Lewes Out
Co-owner of The Busworks, Gillian Harwood, has picked up a lifetime achievement award from the Sussex Express newspaper for her active
involvement in building Lewes town into a retail success.
The award commended the extensive contribution The Busworks' Lewes
Workspace has made to the town of Lewes over the past 24 years.
Gillian Harwood and Philip Lancashire transformed The Needlemakers factory in 1985 from a lifeless candle and needle workshop into a profitable business.
Lewes Workspace is now home to 20 small shops specialising in unique craft pieces and hand-made goods and also houses a successful organic food outlet.
"Since it opened, The Needlemakers has spurred economic growth in Lewes, with 25 small shops in the area opening larger
outlets on the local High Street," said Gillian.
Lewes is now a thriving town full of individual specialist businesses - a far cry from the undeveloped place it was in 1985.
