Phone scammers leave Busworks
charity with £1,000+ bill
Busworks residents should beware after phone jackers tapped into Women and Children First’s (WCF) phone lines and made
international calls totalling £1,100.
Fraudsters made more than 2,400 calls to as far away as New Zealand and Afgahnistan using dial through fraud – a voice mail service-based scam.
WCF Chief Executive Ros
Davies said: “We will pay the bill with great difficulty. It’s been a tough year with the recession and we certainly hadn’t factored for such a large payment.”
Islington Police advise businesses to invest in a secure,
firewalled phone and computer system to prevent fraud. Ask the Busworks reception for IT companies in the building who can help with this.
To make a donation to help WCF pay the bill call them on 0207 700 6309.
