Busworks residents to assess fire

Government requires businesses to prepare for potential blaze

Employers may advocate a heated work environment, but to keep the real flames out of The Busworks, new legislation has been passed requiring businesses to perform a Fire Risk
Assessment.

To keep a safe environment, the House of Lords passed legislation requiring all businesses to review fire safety measures and prepare emergency fire plans in the event that an untamed fire should spread.

"Employers just need to make sure a plan is in place," said
Demelza McEvoy of Omnibus House. "Residents could be prosecuted if found without a plan."

As part of the legislation, residents will be required to adhere to the new general requirements. They include ensuring adequate means exist to detect a fire, posting proper signage for an emergency evacuation and training personnel to implement the emergency plans.

In addition, Busworks residents need to keep records of the entire Fire Risk Assessment.
