Charity gets Comic Relief boost

Heart-wrenching decisions made daily by health staff supported by Busworks charity Women and Children First were highlighted in last month’s record-breaking BBC Comic Relief appeal.

In 2010, the United House based charity received a three year grant from Comic Relief to help people from third world communities, in places such as Malawi, India, and Bangladesh, demand and access their right to health care.

As a result of their work a series of films were
broadcast in the live BBC appeal show.

Cassie Williams, the programme manager at WCF said, “Viewers of Comic Relief may have seen distressing scenes of African medics being forced to decide between four dying children in a hospital with only three oxygen valves.

“Our project ensures mothers and babies get to hospital before situations deteriorate so far that medics have to choose between life and death for patients.”
